Second Annual Live Art Competition a huge success!

Brampton…On Saturday September 9th, Downtown Brampton was host to the second annual Live Art Competition whereby artists once again competed in painting downtown Brampton on canvas or paper.

Live Art Competition was brought to the downtown community by John Cutruzzola of the Inzola Group and Grettel Comas of Baci Gifts & Michaels Photography, both of whom are very passionate in the local Brampton arts.

In Brampton, John’s dedication to the implementation of important structural elements such as Brampton City Hall, The Art Gallery of Peel, The Rose Theatre are significant projects to the developments of the cultural aspects of his community. In recognition of his dedication to his community and his pursuit of artistic and cultural progress, John has been recognized with multiple awards. Among them, Les Carbot Award from the Canadian Art Council, the 2004 Art Person of the Year, the 1993 Business Person of the Year and the 2007 Citizen of the Year.

Grettel Comas, originally from Costa Rica, where the weather, people and coffee merge perfectly. “When I was younger, I was into Journalism where my practical in TV and in radio were my preferences. In Canada, my new tendency is more inclined into business administration, I am the Manager at M.Michael’s Photography and Baci Gifts ” and very active in downtown Brampton.
Grettel Comas, founder of Live Art Competition presented the idea of a Live Art Competition to her colleagues in 2016 and has brought together many key cultural organizations for this annual event. Key organizations that were part of the 2017 Live Art Competition included Algoma University, Baci Gifts, Beaux-Arts Brampton, Deb Kenny Jewellery, Downtown Brampton BIA, PAMA, The Arts of John
Cutruzzola and Razor Creative.

Live Art Competition opened with artists meeting in Brampton’s Garden Square for registration and then headed out to their choice of a downtown location to paint on canvas. Painting took place from 10 to 1pm., and finished mater-pieces were formally submitted to the Live Art Competition organizers for judging. The Live Art Competition judges included Reagan Hayward, Executive Director Beaux-Arts Brampton, Gerrie Loveys, Assistant Curator-Art Collection, Exhibitions, community Projects – PAMA, and local resident Lidija Petri.
Artists and Live Art Competition attendees enjoyed the Downtown Brampton Farmers’ Market, the CARABRAM International Food Festival and the World Jazz Festival, which all took place this past Saturday September 9, 2017.

At 4pm the formal awards ceremony took place in Garden Square and the Live Art Competition judges were very proud to award all of the winners.The winners of Live Art Competition 2017: 1rst. prize (watercolour/mixed media) Anthony Wong, 1rst. prize (acrylic-oil) Karlene Bland; 2nd. prize (watercolour/mixed media) Teresa Mytkowski, 2nd prize (acrylic-oil) Eunice Sim; 3dr. prize (watercolour/mixed media) Rye, 3rd. prize (acrylic-oil) Jodian Foster. Honourable Mention in Acrylic and Watercolour went to Eva Omes. Amazing work from the artists and the whole team of live Art Competition.

Thanks again to everyone who participated and brought Live Art to downtown Brampton. The winning artwork will be on display at Beaux Arts Brampton and the downtown Brampton BIA.
