Pilot Construction Mitigation Grant

Overview

The Downtown Brampton BIA Construction Mitigation Grant’s first phase is accepting ROUND 1 applications until May 10th, 2024. This grant aims to support local businesses within the Downtown Brampton BIA during major construction. The objective is to help businesses implement innovative and creative solutions to beautify and promote the downtown area and mitigate the impacts of the construction. Eligible businesses will receive funding for community-driven initiatives that support the downtown area.

Eligibility

Funding of up to $4,000 is available for member businesses through the Downtown Brampton BIA grant, funded by the City of Brampton per ROUND. The Downtown Brampton BIA administers and manages the grant, and businesses can apply for eligible projects that meet the requirements.

Eligible projects for the grant include:

  • Marketing, Branding, and Communications,
  • Creative Placemaking and Events Activations,
  • Beautification and Safety, and
  • Business Operations.

This grant is designed to support businesses affected by significant construction work. Projects that are eligible for funding under other City of Brampton grants, such as the Façade and Building Improvement Grant and BIA financial incentive programs, are not eligible for funding under this program. Businesses who have outstanding balances owed to the DBBIA are not eligible for this grant. Additionally, project-related campaigns completed before December 31st, 2023, do not qualify for funding under this program.

The Grant Program may be used to fund:

  • Marketing, Branding and Communications Stream
    • Rebates for marketing
    • Brand and marketing material
    • Brand and marketing campaigns
    • Print material, including postcards, brochures, signage, flyers, etc.
    • Social media fees and expenses
    • Digital media, such as Garden Square screen fees
  • Creative Placemaking and Events activations Stream
    • Rebates for special events, pop-up markets, shows and art installations
    • Rebates for venue fees and rental fees
    • Placemaking of the downtown
  • Beautification and Safety Stream
    • Rebates for beautification and safety
    • Business storefront beautification, such as flowers, floral baskets, banners, etc.
    • Business storefront window cleaning and maintenance
    • Security for events
  • Business Operations Stream
    • Rebates for fees and licensing, such as signage fees, business licensing fees, and food truck licensing fees
    • Service delivery needs and local delivery services
    • One-time business operations rebate for affected businesses
  • Other
    • Public art projects
    • Community events
    • Consulting services
    • Honorariums for volunteers

Application Form

Funding Limit

The maximum amount of grants that any eligible recipient can receive through the Grant Program in any of the three rounds is limited to $4,000 per round.

Application Process

To apply for the Grant Program, you must submit the following completed documents:

  • An application form provided by the Downtown Brampton BIA.
  • A project proposal that includes a 6-slide slide deck describing your proposed project, along with an itemized budget.

Review of Applications

The Downtown Brampton BIA will review applications for the Grant Program. After the initial review, the DBBIA may take further steps to assess the applications, such as:

Involving individuals with appropriate expertise in the grant review process, which may include a peer/citizen review mechanism.

  • Sharing applications under the Construction Mitigation Grant with other funding providers to obtain feedback and evaluate potential partnership opportunities.
  • Approving funding for any project, in whole or in part, at its sole discretion.
  • Deferring portions of Round 1 funding applications for consideration in Round 2 or Round 3, ensuring equitable access to Grant Program funds for all eligible applicants.

The DBBIA will evaluate applications for the Grant Program based on the following selection criteria:

  • Whether the application adequately meets the goals of the program;
  • Whether the application will contribute to building capacity and innovation related to major sustained construction projects within the City of Brampton;
  • The degree to which the applicant has been and/or will be impacted by major and sustained construction.
