<p><b>Playful, larger-than-life reeds</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Moving has never been so fun as with </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Roseaux</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">, a “participactive” and interactive installation. Composed of six massive reeds that rise into the sky, </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Roseaux</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> invites the public to activate the base of the reeds by stepping on sensors, rhythmically propelling myriad colours up the stem. This starts a fun and exciting race to the top, punctuated by a vibrant soundscape in a perfect synchrony of light and sound to create an energizing sensory experience. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This family-friendly installation encourages the community to visit downtown Brampton and can put the finishing touch on an afternoon of free skating in Gage Park, supporting local businesses and visiting the neighbourhood art galleries. </span></p>

<p>In this original slapstick comedy, Paddington goes next door to borrow a cup of sugar from his neighbor Mr. Curry, who is in a panic because he’s expecting a visit from his Great Aunt Matilda. And so, Paddington volunteers to help Mr Curry with his to-do list before her imminent arrival.<br /><br />Throughout the afternoon Paddington attempts items on the list – repair the pipes in the bathroom, vacuum the floors, install new wallpaper, bake a cake…. But in typical Paddington fashion, nothing goes to plan. The pipes burst and flood the bathroom. The vacuum cleaner misbehaves and leaves dust everywhere. Paddington adds too much self-rising flour to the cake, and his efforts at wallpapering turn into catastrophic (and sticky) chaos!<br /><br />Will Paddington be able to fix everything before Great Aunt Matilda arrives?</p>

<p>Join Brampton’s own Mikyla Grant-Mentis in conversation with Jacintha Braithwaite. Mikyla is a top professional hockey player currently playing with the Buffalo Beauts of the Premier Hockey Federation. Jacintha is an actress from Brampton and experienced in ice dancing. Mikyla will discuss her career, her goals, diversity in hockey, and more! After our discussion, grab your skates and meet Mikyla and Jacintha at 4 p.m. at Gage Park. Don’t miss out on this rare opportunity to meet and skate with one of hockey’s best. </p>

<p><strong>Mikyla Grant-Mentis</strong> is known for breaking barriers and making hockey more equitable for women and people from diverse backgrounds. </p>
<p>Grant-Mentis, known as ‘Buckey,’ earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and criminology while becoming the highest-scoring hockey player in the history of Merrimack University. After graduating, she signed with the Buffalo Beauts of the NWHL (now named the PHF). In her first week in the league, she was named the league’s Player of the Week. </p>
<p>In May 2020, Grant-Mentis signed with the Toronto Six. She became the most decorated player in a single PHF season, earning a record four accolades, including being the first Black player in league history to win the Most Valuable Player and Newcomer of the Year Award. Additionally, she was the leading scorer on the Six, which won the regular season title, and she was tied as the league-leading scorer. She did all of this while driving the early morning shift for FedEx. </p>
<p>In May 2022, Grant-Mentis became the highest-paid player in the history of women’s hockey, signing with the Buffalo Beauts as a free agent. She coaches the Brampton Canadettes U18 AA hockey team and volunteers with the Kidnetix Kidz Association in Toronto. Grant-Mentis prides herself on being a role model for the next generation of athletes and paving the way for more Black women in hockey. </p>

<p><strong>Jacintha Braithwaite</strong> is a Canadian actress and model raised in Brampton, Ontario. She has always had a passion for acting and has involved herself in various school and church plays from a young age. Jacintha began her professional career in January of 2017 when she enrolled in the Toronto Film School - Acting for Film, TV and Theatre program. At the school she has been trained in numerous aspects of acting such as: scene studies, auditioning, voice training, accents/dialects and voice over. </p>
<p>Since finishing her training, Braithwaite has quickly gained experience on film and TV sets, appearing in Lifetime’s “<strong>Salt-N-Pepa,” </strong>as well as Netflix’s<strong> “The Umbrella Academy” </strong>and will be returning as Jackie, in the second season of <strong>“Ginny and Georgia.” </strong>As for her recent stage credits, in March of </p>
<p>2018, Jacintha was involved in a adaptation of “<strong>The Good Person of Szechuan,” </strong>directed by Sue Miner.<strong> </strong> </p>

<p>Toronto Burundi Drummers has performed drumming and dancing for more than 20 years. We have appeared at events across the Greater Toronto Area, and have performed internationally at the Civitanova Danze Festival in Italy. From the moment that we enter carrying drums on our heads, to our dynamic jumping and rhythmic chanting, our performances enthrall audiences at community festivals, arts events, corporate and private events.</p>
<p>The goal of our community group is to preserve and promote Burundi Drumming. We offer free instruction and no experience is necessary. Programs are available in English or French, and are free of gender-bias.<br />The TBD Show Team is available for community celebrations, commercial events and private weddings. <p><strong>Amadou Kienou: Master Drummer & Griot</strong></p>
<p>Master drummer Amadou Kienou hails from Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, West Africa, once part of the vast ancient Mandingo Empire. A descendant of the <em>Dafin </em>people<em>, </em>Amadou was initiated as a <em>djeli </em>or <em>griot </em>(an oral historian), one of a long line of griots whose role is to preserve and transmit their people’s history, culture, and values. Nowadays, bringing the traditional to the contemporary, Amadou delights international audiences with his unique polyrhythmic expression of emotions and memories.</p>
<p>The djembe is Amadou’s principal instrument. As he describes it, “the djembe is more than a musical instrument; it is an extension of the musician through which he expresses his life, his emotions.” Mastery of the djembe requires a lifetime of discipline and dedication, and the guidance of a djembe master, provided, in Amadou’s case, primarily by his father, the late revered Baba Kienou. Amadou plays several other traditional African instruments – the dunduns, the n’goni, and the tama, not to mention the Western guitar and drum set.</p>
<p>As a <em>djeli</em>, musician-composer, dancer, choreographer, and instructor, Amadou Kienou has been active throughout North America, Africa, Europe, Asia, India, and the Caribbean. He has performed and recorded with many great artists, including Miriam Makeba, Manu Dibango, Angélique Kidjo, Sali, Youssou N’dour, and <em>Kassav</em>, and with his own ensembles <em>Fotéban </em>and <em>Djeli Sira </em>(The Griot’s Path). In recognition of his artistry, he has received numerous awards, including <em>Best African Performing Artist in Canada 2019, </em>Radio Kilimandjaro’s <em>Best Male Performer of 2018 </em>and <em>Male Artist of the Year 2016</em>, <em>Cultural Ambassador of Burkina Faso in Canada. On June 19<sup>th</sup>, 2018, Amadou Kienou was awarded the Order of Merit of Arts, Letters and Communication, in Ottawa, Canada.</em></p>
<p>Formally recognized as a Griot/Master Drummer in his homeland (and the only one in Canada), Amadou has resided in Toronto since 2008, performing around the globe and regularly teaching dance and drumming workshops in schools, universitie, and at festivals throughout the nation.
