May is Museum Month – join our virtual celebration!
May is Museum Month and though the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) is closed temporarily due to COVID-19, we invite you to celebrate with us virtually.
There are numerous ways to celebrate and have some fun from home:
Watch - Behind-the scenes tours on PAMA’s YouTube channel as well as on all our social’s via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and connect with arts and culture from the comfort of home.
Take a Virtual Field Trip - Take a digital journey on PAMA's first virtual exhibition Morphology. Local photographers document the creation of the Jim Tovey Lakeview Conservation area in Mississauga.
This is a unique opportunity to see the transformation of the Jim Tovey Lakeview Conservation Area through the eyes of local photographers. This project along Mississauga's waterfront will provide a green oasis in the heart of the city with beaches, meadows, forests, wetlands, and rocky islands.
Students can take it one step furtherwith a Conservation Exploration: Explore PAMA's online exhibit, Morphology with teaching resources including critical thinking questions and a hands-on/application of knowledge activity:
Stay tuned for more virtual exhibitions coming up soon.
Create from Home - Because #ArtCanHelp - Check out over 50 family fun activities, colouring sheets and hands-on education lessons on the PAMA @ Home page. This May, we feature new themes each week. This week is all about museum week, followed by regally royal week, then hidden treasures.
- Participate in a new #SketchItFriday challenge which is perfect for a #COVIDDateNight. Follow along on PAMA’s social media or on the PAMA @ Home page
Contribute to the #PeelTimeCapsule2020 - PAMA and Museums of Mississauga are creating a COVID-19 time capsule to document the experience and memories during the pandemic.
Peel residents and businesses can submit photos, journal entries, posters and signage, home lesson plans, original new works of art and music, modified take-out menus, cross-stitching, even scans of grocery lists. Currently all pieces need to be submitted digitally to PAMAmuseum@peelregion.ca to become part of this project. If you have physical items, please keep them for submission once PAMA is able to re-open.
We’ll be regularly posting updates on our social media channels on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with the #PeelTimeCapsule2020 as part of an evolving virtual exhibit with plans for future exhibits at both Museums of Mississauga and PAMA in 2021.
