Downtown Business Owner – Richard Prouse named 2019 Brampton Business Person of the Year

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Brampton, ON – January 25, 2019 – The Brampton Board of Trade is delighted to announce that Richard Prouse of Prouse, Dash & Crouch, LLP has been awarded the honour of 2019 Brampton Business Person of the Year.

The Business Person of the Year is awarded to an individual that has demonstrated leadership and excellence in Brampton, contributing to the city both through their business and personal endeavours. With more than 30 years of community involvement as a mentor, donor, volunteer and employer, Prouse has spent his entire career building and supporting various initiatives throughout Brampton.

Born and raised in Brampton, he took on his father’s mantle by joining PDC over 30 years ago. Prouse focuses on business, real estate, wills and estate law serving his clients by offering strategic, yet practical methods to resolve issues.

Mr. Prouse can be described as someone who lives and breathes Brampton. Through his work as the chair of the Brampton Downtown Development Corporation for over 10 years, Prouse dedicated time and resources to promote downtown Brampton by attracting new business and helping retain the existing base. Mr. Prouse’s motivation is making this city a viable place to live and work, and leaving our children with a proud legacy of their upbringing”.

Currently, he is a member of the Peel Memorial Capital Campaign Cabinet, continuing his legacy as a donor. Inspired by the Orlando Match, his firm recently made a significant pledge to help build and equip the new Peel Memorial hospital.

“We were most impressed with the recommendations received by those who Richard has encouraged over the years. In his quiet, but impactful way, through his mentoring of young lawyers, support of house league sports, downtown development, or local health care, Richard is one of our community’s biggest boosters”, said Todd Letts, CEO, Brampton Board of Trade.

In addition to receiving the Philanthropy Living Legacy Award from the Brampton Caledon Community Foundation in 2016, he was also presented with a Philanthropic Leadership award from the Osler Foundation for his long-term support of health care in Brampton.

Prouse holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) from Laurentian University, a Master of Arts in Public Administration from University of Toronto, and a Bachelor of Law from McGill University. He has volunteered for over 10 local organizations applying his skills to improve structure and bringing value to achieve objectives. Some of his experience includes: Past Chairman of the Brampton Downtown Business Association, Past Chairman of the Brampton Downtown Development Corporation, Past President of the Children’s Aid Society for the Region of Peel, Past President of La Petite Ecole Francaise Co-Operative De Brampton Inc., and Past Adjudicator for Canada Pension Plan Appeals Tribunal, to name a few.

“It goes without saying I was shocked to hear that my name had been put forward and will now be considered as part of the BBOT Business Person of the Year family, with so many talented and successful persons previously selected” said Prouse.

Prouse will receive the 2019 Business Person of The Year award at the Brampton Board of Trade Business Excellence Awards Gala on May 9, 2019 at Pearson Convention Centre in Brampton.
