CITY OF BRAMPTON APPROVES $16.6M INVESTMENT IN DOWNTOWN STREETSCAPING

BRAMPTON, ON (September 24, 2021) – On Tuesday, September 22, 2021 The City of
Brampton Committee of Council approved a $16.6M investment in downtown Brampton
streetscaping work after years of advocacy from the Downtown Brampton BIA, business leaders
and community.

The Downtown Brampton BIA represents over 320 business and 140 property owners. Since
the cancellation of the last revitalization program in 2018, the BIA and the BIA’s Revitalization
Team have delegated to Council frequently and regularly. In addition to the much-needed
infrastructure upgrades, they have advocated for a beautification plan including wider sidewalks,
upgraded surfaces and trees.

The BIA is pleased that Council has directed Staff to develop the Downtown Brampton
Streetscape Manual and that engineering design will begin immediately. The BIA looks forward
to working with the City on the 8-week Urban Design Activation Strategy which will explore
opportunities for temporary and long-term urban activations in the downtown.
