Brampton’s Downtown Comes Alive with Art: 9th Annual Live Art Competition Returns on August 16, 2025
Get ready to witness art in action as the 9th Annual Live Art Competition returns to Downtown Brampton on Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Hosted at Gallery 35 (35 Queen Street West), this beloved event invites artists of all ages and skill levels to turn the downtown into an open-air gallery, and you’re invited to witness the magic as it happens.
Artist registration runs from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Gallery 35. Whether you’re picking up a brush or simply soaking in the experience, this is a summer moment not to miss.
“We started this competition to bring art into the streets, where everyone can experience it,” says John Cutruzzola, Founder of Gallery 35. “It’s been incredible to watch it grow and become such an inspiring part of Brampton’s summer.”
Presented by Inzola’s Art Endowment Funds, the Live Art Competition offers a rare chance to watch artists create original works live and on location. From 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, participating artists will paint in various downtown locations, capturing the spirit of the city in real time. Finished works will then be submitted to Gallery 35 for judging and public display.
Now in its ninth year, the event continues to grow as a summer highlight. With cash prizes of up to $1,000 for adult artists and gift prizes for youth participants, the competition offers both recognition and reward. Artists can register in advance by visiting the official website, and everyone is encouraged to come downtown and be part of this creative celebration.
“What makes this event so special is the way it invites the public into the creative process,” says Grettel Comas, Director of Gallery 35. “You’re not just looking at finished art, you’re part of its creation, brushstroke by brushstroke.”
From 2:45 PM to 3:30 PM, the public is invited to join the section of “Paint with John The Community Canvas” at Gallery 35, an inclusive, hands-on opportunity for visitors of all ages to participate in the creative energy, no experience required. At the same time, guests can view the completed competition artwork before the Closing Ceremony at 4:00 PM.
Louroz Mercader, Executive Director of the Downtown Brampton BIA, notes, “We’re proud to help bring this incredible event to life once again. The Live Art Competition brings together art, culture, and business to celebrate creativity in Downtown Brampton.”
Whether you’re an artist ready to compete or a community member looking to be inspired, this is your chance to experience the arts up close and in action.
